Bad day here.....

Postby Hawk45 » 17 Jul 2017 14:58

My Great Dane evidently had a stroke and his kidneys started shutting down. Took him to the vet this morning and he had to put him down. He had turned 8 this last Valentine Day. Got to break to the Daughter this afternoon as he was actually her dog, but he was my constant companion.

I hated going to weddings. All the grandmas would poke me saying, "You're next". They stopped that when I started doing it to them at funerals.

Sorry to hear that.

Prayers sent.

My Shepherd mix is eight now. Still going strong, but a stroke can sneak up on anyone/thing with no warning.

I'm sorry.

Just Googled "Great Dane" and read all about the breed, saw pictures and YouTubes. Great Danes do seem to be the dog to get for a buddy to hang out with as their makeup is designed for great companionship. In the YouTubes the Great Danes seem to super care about and want their human's attention.

Dogs aren't just animals. I think God sent them to us so we would have living, breathing examples of the qualities we should have, loyalty, honesty, faithfulness and unlimited love. I am very sorry for your loss. It would not surprise me if his final thoughts on earth were something like "Thanks for everything. I really enjoyed my time here with you."
I don't watch survival "reality" TV to be educated. I watch it to be entertained. There's a BIG difference.

We rescue dogs, (and a couple cats and a horse), placed over 100 in 15 years. I agree with Pilgrim52. They teach us the finer qualities of behavior. Human and otherwise.

The ones we could not place, the 'tough' ones, crippled ones, the ones with behavior issues, have a home for life here. Some have been here for the whole ride. When they pass, it's heartbreaking. They're indeed family.

Sorry Hawk. I know the empty space left.

A guest once said, "Your dogs smell". The only thing I could say was, "Yep, they smell like love".
