APOCALYPSE MAN

Postby Low-key on 07 Feb 2010 07:10

I caught an episode of a show on History Channel called APOCALYPSE MAN. It's narrated/stars a guy named Rudy Reyes, a former Force Recon Marine, Iraq/Afghanistan vet. It puts you in a SHTF scenario. A fair amount of interesting stuff is presented. I can't say I agree with everything or all his moves, but I was amused/interested/intrigued. I set my DVR to catch anymore episodes, but nothing else so far. Anyone else seen this? What do you think?

He seemed to do some illogical and unrealistic things in my opinion.

Swinging like George of the Jungle onto the bridge notwithstanding, his opinion that you need to get to the city so that you can break into a hospital to use their generator (if I recall all this correctly) just didn't make sense to me.

That said, there was some very interesting gadgetry/formulations he came up with I never knew about. I didn't watch the whole show but didn't come away with much in the way of actual info I felt I'd be able (or want) to apply.

I didn't even know about this show until the initial run was over so I never saw it. I would really like to, however. The History channel almost always reruns it's shows sooner or later so I'll just wait. As an aside, Bare Grylls recently did an episode on urban survival in which he went to some former communist country with what seemed to have been a deserted shipyard in which he crawled through air ducts, made a torch out of tarpaper, broke into a deserted medical station inside a factory and found some bandages and potassium permanganate, slid down some elevator cables and swung like Tarzan on cranes, etc. As near as I can tell, everything he did was really exciting and dramatic, but he never did anything that was of much value to a real urban survivor. IOW, it was about like all of his other shows. :roll:

The History Channel must not be very proud of this show because it doesn't even show up on the list of TV shows on their website.

I watched that episode and while I really like the idea of learning things from TV, I totally disagree with his premise that teh first thing you need to do is turn the lights on, get a vehicle running, and set up a radio station to contact others.

So, according to Armaggedon Man, the rule of threes is now;

You can die in three minutes without the lights on, three days without a running vehicle, and three weeks without a working radio station?

Maybe I didn't miss much after all. :lol:
