Despite all my disclaimers to the opposite, it became very clear the end of 2009, that I needed to up my fitness.
We had a garage fire at 1 am, in low temps, probably 15-20 degrees, and only a few old geezers, including me, showed up to the fire.
Of the ones who showed up, only 2 of us were cleared to put on air tanks and go inside the building. I was one of those two.
Fire gear weighs probably 10 to 20 lbs, helmet, coats, boots and all. I've heard the air tank and regulator belt is another 30. I don't know about that. Then, we were ordered to haul down the garage ceiling, so we were pushing a pike pole up through the drywall, and pulling it down. Aerobic workout. Needless to say, it was exhausting, and my partner ( a big former football guy 50 year old who has his own issues) and I couldn't work for long, about 5 minutes, before we needed a rest.
the whole incident lasted about 3 1/2 hours, with everyone involved worn out by night's end. I carried the air pack at least an hour.
The next day I had the pains-in feet and lower back. It became obvious to me I needed to get into some kind of shape if I am to continue on this department.
So, me and DH started crossfit at the local gym. I am hindered in that I pulled something in my shoulder when lifting 4 50 lb. bags of feed, one at a time, and dumping them in storage trash cans. Saw the chiropracter and MD for that, referred to orthopedics, will be seen soon. MD and chiro said bursitis, physical therapist said tendonitis or torn muscle.
Feet are acting up from crossfit too-I could only do 74 jump rope before I thought my heart would leap out of my chest, that was day one. I got up to 100 yesterday. For feet, I have mobic from MD, also for shoulder, and doing lots of stretching. Also, physical therapist gave me shoe inserts, they are wonderful, better than any I bought in the past.
Fitness at my age involves a village, lol, as you can see. But, about the finish first week, and not dead yet, so onward and upward.
Highly recommend getting on some sort of regular program/schedule, even if it's only walking for 30 minutes a day. It's worth the effort.
Kuzushi, how is your 60 day program, done?
